The next part of the visit is the check-up of the patient's teeth. At the check-up the dentist checks the condition of teeth and gums for enamel condition, the presence of caries or cavities. Where necessary, the diagnostics can be completed by taking a cross-sectional X-ray image (panoramic radiography) which may be required to complete the diagnosis and plan the comprehensive treatment.
Initial treatment plan
After the check-up, the doctor informs the patient about the condition of their teeth, and then proposes an initial treatment plan. This plan takes into account the individual situation of the patient – their needs, expectations, financial possibilities, as well as lifestyle and work. If possible, and with patient consent, the doctor goes on to treat the first problem. The appointment ends with setting up the date of the next appointment. If necessary, the doctor refers the patient for additional examinations or consultations with other specialists of the centre and in justified cases also to doctors of other fields of medicine. After leaving the doctor's surgery, the patient receives additional materials which will allow him or her to take even better care of their teeth.
